The Ukrainian Museum is a nonprofit cultural institution in Manhattan's East Village, founded in 1976 by the Ukrainian National Women's League of America to preserve and present Ukrainian art and cultural heritage. Its collection traces back to folk art objects acquired for the Ukrainian pavilion at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair and today comprises more than 8,000 folk art objects, 3,000 fine-art works, and 30,000 archival items. The museum moved into a purpose-built facility, designed by architect George Sawicki, in 2005. Programming includes rotating exhibitions of historical and contemporary Ukrainian art, guided tours, workshops, and youth and family programs, alongside a museum shop, making it one of the largest repositories of Ukrainian cultural heritage outside Ukraine.
