Friends of the New York Transit Museum
Art galleryFriends of the New York Transit Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1995 to fundraise for and promote the New York Transit Museum, a self-supporting division of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The Transit Museum itself was founded in 1976 inside a decommissioned 1936 subway station in Brooklyn, where visitors can view vintage subway and elevated cars dating back to the early twentieth century alongside exhibits on the history of the city's mass transportation. The Friends organization's fundraising supports the museum's collections, exhibitions, and educational programs, which extend to a satellite gallery and store at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.
