Skarstedt is a gallery specializing in postwar and contemporary American and European art, founded in 1992 by dealer Per Skarstedt, whose first acquisition, at age twenty-three, was a work by Richard Prince. The gallery opened its first space on Manhattan's Upper East Side in 1992 and later moved to a townhouse that was formerly home to Paul Rosenberg & Co. in 2007. It has since expanded to a second location in Chelsea, Manhattan, as well as galleries in London and Paris. Skarstedt is known for historical, museum-quality exhibitions that reunite significant bodies of work, representing artists including Georg Baselitz, George Condo, KAWS, and Barbara Kruger, and managing the estates of Martin Kippenberger and Andy Warhol.
