P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss in a converted 19th-century public school in Long Island City, Queens, merged with the Museum of Modern Art in 2000 and was renamed MoMA PS1 in 2010; it remains an active leading contemporary art institution at the same Queens location.
