PROTOCINEMA
Art galleryProtocinema is a nonprofit arts organization founded in 2011 by curator Mari Spirito, who serves as its founding director. Operating without a permanent exhibition space, it presents site-aware commissions and exhibitions in cities including Istanbul and New York, with past projects in locations such as Tbilisi, Paris, Seoul, and Moscow. The organization's name draws on early human attempts to depict motion, reflecting its interest in representation, communication, and perception across cultures. Beyond exhibitions, Protocinema runs the Protocinema Emerging Curator Series, a mentorship program for developing curators, and produces Protodispatch and Protozine, publications that accompany and contextualize its projects.
