Open Source is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) contemporary art gallery in Brooklyn built around artist-led and community-centered programming. Alongside rotating exhibitions, including a recent photography and interview project by Hidemi Takagi centering mixed-race teenagers, the organization runs recurring public series such as Open Sound, a summer evening music program, as well as Open Kitchen, Church of Monika, How to Build a Fire, and the youth-focused KoKo NYC. The gallery frames its work with an acknowledgment that it sits on the traditional homelands of the Canarsie people, and it relies on volunteers and community participation to sustain its programming and public hours.
