JJ Murphy Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Manhattan, founded in 2024 by J.J. Murphy, a filmmaker and scholar who taught film production and studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for nearly four decades and has authored four books on independent cinema, including The Black Hole of the Camera: The Films of Andy Warhol and Rewriting Indie Cinema. The gallery states its aim is to add a distinct curatorial voice to New York's contemporary art discourse, presenting solo and group exhibitions of under-recognized artists as well as historically or thematically focused shows. Its program has included exhibitions by painters such as Hwi Hahm, Mala Iqbal, David Hornung, Andrew Shea, and Judith Simonian. Murphy also writes about art on Instagram under the handle @dagcentral.
