Groundswell Community Mural Project is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit founded in 1996 by a group of New York City artists, educators, and activists on the belief that collaborative art-making combines personal expression with community activism. Operating from President Street in Park Slope, the organization engages youth roughly ages 14 to 21 in creative work at the intersection of arts education, youth development, and social justice, partnering with teaching artists and community-based and government organizations. Through school-based initiatives, studio programs, and community commissions, Groundswell has completed close to 500 public murals across New York City's five boroughs.
