Essex Flowers
Art galleryEssex Flowers is an artist-run cooperative gallery in New York, founded in 2013 by a group of nine artists who opened the space in the basement of a Lower East Side florist shop for which the gallery is named. It operates as a fully artist-run cooperative, with member artists showing their own work alongside that of others, and has been described as embodying the aggressively non-conformist, experimental sensibility of New York's independent artist-run spaces. Programming has mixed traditional five-week exhibitions with unconventional events such as poetry readings, guided by a stated mission to present emerging artists. Essex Flowers has since relocated within the Lower East Side and is a member of NADA.
