Douglas Newton
Art galleryDouglas Newton is a realist painter based in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, known for hyperrealist still-life paintings that explore light, translucency, and reflection. He studied at Stanford University and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, and worked as an art director in Los Angeles and New York before turning to painting full time. His early work depicted imagined suburban landscapes and houses; he later shifted to still life, working in oil directly from life rather than from photographs to depict food, candy, toys, and household objects using a trompe l'oeil technique. Newton has held four solo exhibitions and shown in numerous group shows, and in 2012 he was selected for a residency at Fundacion Valparaiso in Andalusia, Spain.
