Art galleryCarter Burden Center for the Aging, which operates today as the Carter Burden Network, is a Manhattan-based nonprofit promoting the well-being of adults 60 and older through a continuum of services, advocacy, arts and culture, health and wellness, and volunteer programs. It runs four older adult centers, in East Harlem, on Roosevelt Island, and on the Upper East Side, serving roughly 400 members daily and 3,800 annually. Its Making Art Work program offers classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, sewing, quilt-making, dance, choir, and guitar, and the organization also operates the Carter Burden Gallery in Chelsea, which exhibits exclusively the work of professional artists over 60 and describes itself as the first gallery of its kind in the nation.
