Art21 is a New York-based nonprofit founded in 1997 by Susan Sollins that produces and distributes documentary programming about contemporary artists. Its flagship series, Art in the Twenty-First Century, premiered on PBS in 2001 as the first U.S. television series devoted exclusively to contemporary visual art and received a Peabody Award in 2007. The organization also produces the series Extended Play and New York Close Up, maintains an online library of more than 700 videos available to stream free, and runs Art21 Educators, providing classroom resources and professional development for teachers. Art21 holds 501(c)(3) status and has received a Charity Navigator four-star rating and Guidestar's Gold transparency seal.
