Ted McGrath is a painter and multimedia artist based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where he has lived since 2002 and kept a studio in the neighborhood's Pencil Factory building for years. Originally from outside Philadelphia, he earned a BFA in illustration and design from Pratt Institute before shifting from commercial illustration toward fine art around 2013. Working in oil paint, spray paint, ink, and oil stick, he builds paintings and drawings from abstract and figurative imagery drawn from pop culture, current events, and personal history. McGrath has exhibited in New York and internationally, including shows at Cinders Gallery, Calico, and Black Ball Projects, and has designed murals and record sleeves for Brooklyn music venues. He is also a musician, performing with the bands Point Break 2 and The Flag.
