The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery is Columbia University's principal public visual-arts space, established in 1986 through the philanthropy of Ira D. Wallach to advance the university's historical, critical, and creative engagement with the visual arts. Originally housed on the eighth floor of Schermerhorn Hall, it moved in 2017 to the Renzo Piano-designed Lenfest Center for the Arts in Manhattanville, roughly tripling its exhibition space. The gallery organizes projects with graduate students and faculty from Columbia's Department of Art History and Archaeology and other university scholars, with a curatorial focus that has highlighted historically underrepresented artists, including those from Harlem. Admission is free and the exhibition roster rotates regularly.
