The Drawing Center
Art galleryThe Drawing Center is a nonprofit museum in SoHo, Manhattan, founded in 1977 as an institution devoted specifically to the exhibition and study of drawing. It opened in a ground-floor SoHo warehouse space before relocating within the same neighborhood in 1987 to its current home. The Center treats drawing as a primary and dynamic medium rather than a merely preparatory one, staging exhibitions that range across historical and contemporary work and that have included drawings by figures outside the traditional art world, such as tattoo artists, chefs, novelists, and incarcerated people, alongside professional visual artists.
