Territorial Empathy is a nonprofit design collective founded in 2018 by Zarith Pineda, a Colombian-American architectural and urban designer, in response to the underrepresentation of women of color in architecture and urban planning. Based in Brooklyn, the collective of architects, urbanists, and researchers works to advance spatial justice through design rooted in cultural responsiveness, anti-racism, and anti-bias practices, aiming to dismantle systemic inequities in the built environment. Its projects have included community space and garden work in the South Bronx and outreach efforts in Washington Heights, framing design as a tool for equity in underserved communities.
