Swiss Institute
Art gallerySwiss Institute (SI) is an independent nonprofit contemporary art organization founded in 1986 by a group of Swiss expatriates in New York to showcase Swiss artists and culture. Since then it has moved several times across Manhattan, operating from the Upper West Side, SoHo, and Tribeca before settling into a former bank building in the East Village in 2018, redesigned by Selldorf Architects with exhibition galleries, education space, a library, and a rooftop; admission is always free. SI presents experimental exhibitions, artist residencies including Pro Helvetia and SAHA programs, and public and school programs, and is now preparing a new Manhattan home slated to open in spring 2027.
