The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1971 by the New York State Council on the Arts to support individual artists and emerging arts organizations. Its mission is to empower artists and cultural workers across all disciplines to achieve success on their own terms, and it operates four core programs: Artists' Fellowships, Fiscal Sponsorship, Professional Development, and Online Resources, the last including widely used listings of grants, awards, and opportunities. Originally focused on New York State, NYFA has since expanded its programming nationally and internationally. The organization is led by Executive Director Michael L. Royce, who succeeded longtime leader Ted Berger.
