Nicola Vassell Gallery is a contemporary art gallery on Tenth Avenue in Chelsea, opened in May 2021 by dealer and curator Nicola Vassell, the first Black woman to open a gallery in the Chelsea arts district. Jamaica-born, Vassell moved to New York in 1996, studied business and art history at NYU, and began her gallery career at Deitch Projects in 2005, becoming a director there in 2007 before working at Pace Gallery from 2010 to 2012 and later running her own curatorial practice. The gallery's inaugural show featured photographer Ming Smith, and its program centers on contemporary artists with particular attention to Black artists and emerging voices, including figures Vassell has long championed such as Kehinde Wiley and LaToya Ruby Frazier. In 2023 the gallery entered a partnership with Hauser & Wirth for shared representation.
