Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) is a Brooklyn museum dedicated to the art and culture of Africa and its diaspora, founded in 1999 by Laurie Cumbo. Originally housed in a Bed-Stuy church building, the museum moved to Fort Greene's arts district in 2006 and later expanded into a multi-site campus anchored by its flagship Culture Lab II gallery, performance space, and cafe on Lafayette Avenue, alongside the Ubuntu Garden public art space and a seasonal residency, Abolition House, on Governors Island. Through exhibitions, public programs, and community events such as Soul of Brooklyn, MoCADA uses visual art as a starting point for exploring social and political issues facing the African diaspora.
