Museum of Chinese in the Americas was the name used between 1995 and 2007 by the institution now known as the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), on Centre Street in Manhattan's Chinatown. It traces its origins to the New York Chinatown History Project, founded in 1980 by historian John Kuo Wei Tchen and community activist Charles Lai to document Chinese American history through oral history, photographs, and artifacts. The museum later moved into its current Centre Street building, designed by architect Maya Lin, in 2009, where it presents the permanent exhibition "With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America" alongside rotating shows and public programs.
