The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) is a museum on Centre Street in Manhattan's Chinatown dedicated to preserving and presenting the history, heritage, and contributions of Chinese Americans. It traces its origins to the New York Chinatown History Project, founded in 1980 by historian John Kuo Wei Tchen and community activist Charles Lai, which was renamed the Museum of Chinese in the Americas in 1995 and took its current name in 2007. MOCA moved to its current Centre Street building, designed by architect Maya Lin, in 2009. Its offerings include the permanent exhibition "With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America," rotating shows, public tours, and educational programs.
