The Museum of African American Cinema (MoAAC) is a nonprofit founded in 2001 by Gregory Javan Mills, Ernest N. Steele, and about twenty other founding members to address the absence of Black cinema in American film collections. It occupies office space in the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building in Harlem, where it holds a collection of more than 4,000 items, including vintage film prints, posters, and original costumes from films such as Malcolm X. Led by Mills as president, the organization has worked to secure funding to eventually display its holdings in a permanent exhibition space.
