The Korea Society is a private, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization based in Manhattan that was founded in 1957 under the leadership of General James A. Van Fleet, who had commanded U.S. forces during the final phase of the Korean War. It merged in 1993 with the U.S.-Korea Society and the U.S.-Korea Foundation to form its current structure. The organization is dedicated to promoting understanding and cooperation between the United States and Korea through programming in the arts, policy, education, film, literature, and cuisine. Its offerings include gallery talks, exhibitions on Korean art and history, performing-arts events, and public programs on contemporary Korea, reaching audiences nationally alongside partner organizations in the U.S. and Korea.
