James Cohan is a contemporary art gallery founded in fall 1999 by James and Jane Cohan, initially on West 57th Street in Manhattan. James Cohan had previously worked at Paula Cooper Gallery and Anthony d'Offay Gallery in London before starting his own program, known for pairing established avant-garde artists with emerging names across painting, sculpture, video, and craft-based work. The gallery operated in Chelsea for 17 years and ran a Shanghai space from 2008 to 2015 before relocating its flagship to Tribeca in 2019, later adding a second Walker Street location in 2021. In 2024 it joined other Manhattan dealers in founding The Campus, a shared exhibition space upstate.
