George Adams Gallery traces its roots to the Allan Frumkin Gallery, founded in Chicago in 1952 with a New York branch opening in 1959. George Adams joined the New York gallery in 1980; it became Frumkin/Adams Gallery in 1988 and took its present name in 1995 after Allan Frumkin's retirement. The gallery moved to Chelsea in 2005 and, in 2021, to its first ground-floor space in Tribeca. Its program has long paired contemporary American artists, particularly from the San Francisco Bay Area and Latin America, with 20th-century European master drawings, and its roster has included Robert Colescott, Philip Pearlstein, Mel Chin, and Joseph Cornell.
