Derek Des Islets is a painter, born in 1988 and based in Brooklyn, working primarily in acrylic combined with pastel, ink, and colored pencil on canvas. His paintings are intuitively formed, gestural abstractions that draw on imagery from scientific instruments, layering disparate elements of line, color, and found materials into unified compositions. He has shown work in group and solo exhibitions since the mid-2000s, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, X Contemporary during Miami's Wynwood Arts District fairs, Gallery Sensei on Manhattan's Lower East Side, and Brooklyn's ZXY Gallery and Greenpoint Gallery.
