The Center for Cuban Studies is a nonprofit educational organization founded in 1972 by a group of scholars, writers, artists, and other professionals to provide information about contemporary Cuba and to contribute to a normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States. Based in Dumbo, Brooklyn, the center operates the Cuban Art Space, a gallery and archive whose holdings include more than 12,000 works of Cuban art — posters, photographs, paintings, and ceramics — along with slides, catalogs, and books documenting Cuban artists. It exhibits and sells work by contemporary Cuban artists such as Choco (Eduardo Roca Salazar), supports a traveling exhibition program, and organizes small-group trips to Cuba alongside membership programs and a bookstore focused on Cuban culture.
