Brooklyn Art Incubator (BAI) is a community-focused, arts-education nonprofit founded in 2003 by Carl "Musa" Hixson, a former New York City public school and juvenile-justice-facility teacher. Its mission centers on using the arts to support young people and multiple generations of Brooklyn residents, including a youth arts education program and an Arts with Seniors initiative offered through local community centers. BAI has also brought pop-up arts programming into public housing, parks, and street festivals to help fill gaps in in-school arts access, and in 2005 its artists were contracted by the U.S. Defense Department to create illustrations for environmentally conscious urban spaces alongside city planners and the Army Corps of Engineers.
