ARCAthens is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2017, that runs artist and curatorial residencies split between Athens, Greece and the Bronx, New York. Its Athens Residency offers fully funded three-month fellowships, including a $3,000 stipend, round-trip travel, and studio access for visual-art fellows, to artists, curators, and scholars who live and work in Athens during the program. A related ARCAthens Virtual Residency pairs a curator with two artists, one based in Greece and one in the Bronx, for a month of daily online exchange. The organization frames its mission around the Greek concept of philoxenia, or hospitality to strangers, extending that welcome across its Athens, Bronx, and New Orleans communities.
