4heads is a Brooklyn-founded, artist-run nonprofit established in 2008 with a mission of cultivating community through free, large-scale art exhibitions, studio residencies for under-resourced artists, and arts education for underserved youth. Its signature program, the Portal exhibition series, began on Governors Island, where it drew large annual crowds before the organization shifted to a more mobile model; a recent edition, Portal: Rockaway at Fort Tilden in Queens, presented dozens of artists working in painting, drawing, installation, sculpture, and performance.
