Vicki Arthur
OtherI combine my knowledge and experiences as a field biologist and conservation educator with memory and imagination. My paintings and ceramics explore creative interpretations of today’s forests and landscapes. Flowing, bold and energetic brush strokes use movement, light and color to portray an enrapturing natural world of our times with clues of distress. I split my time as an artist between my home in Volcano, HI and Brooklyn, NY, where I have expanded the pursuit of my art journey. My work stays joyful and authentic through my practice of plein air painting while in Hawaii, which feeds my soul. The paintings are inspired by Hawaii’s magical natural world. The Hawaii paintings provide a platform of inspiration for the larger studio paintings that I create in NY. The works express a deeply felt connection to nature. Loving nature comes with sadness and concern for our lack of this connection and stewardship. My paintings address our relationship with nature and encourage a shared concern for the urgent need to change course.
