Powerhouse Arts

Powerhouse Arts, a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression, stewarded the redevelopment of the former Brooklyn Rapid Transit Power Station in Gowanus to create a new facility that houses fabrication facilities for ceramics, large metals, print, public art, and textiles. The building—designed by Herzog & de Meuron in collaboration with PBDW Architects— re-imagines the historic power plant as a new art center that meets the multidisciplinary needs of the contemporary arts ecosystem, with multi-use facilities for education, events, and public engagement. Gowanus Open Studios will feature Powerhouse Arts' MGC Community Print Studio (5th Floor) and Community Ceramics Studio (6th Floor) from 12pm-5pm, with hands-on art making for all ages in our Lobby from 12pm-3pm.
