PaintingPhuong's artwork includes sculpture, drawings and paintings. He also creates industrial designs that employ everyday and reclaimed materials. His current work, which he will be showing at Open Gowanus, is a series of still lives inspired by James Bond films. Based on the films' fleeting detail shots, these paintings highlight the many small gestures in which objects take a brief star turn.
I am an artist, designer and woodworker living and working in Brooklyn. My artwork includes sculpture, drawings, and paintings. Currently I am working on two ongoing series of paintings. The 007 Paintings are inspired by James Bond films. These still life paintings feature objects from the films' many detail shots and inserts, giving them a brief star turn. The Window Paintings depict the landscape of New York City as seen through glass: obscured by reflections, grime and scratches, and divided by grids of wire. My industrial designs employ everyday and reclaimed materials, seeking to bring together simplicity and utility.
