Naruki Kukita, who works under the name Naruki Art Dojo, is a Japanese-born figurative oil painter based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. He earned a BFA from Tama Art University in Tokyo in 2004 and later studied at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Fine Arts in New York. His portraiture, painted from live models, draws on Old Master and Neoclassical technique while depicting queer and often explicitly homoerotic subject matter. His work has appeared in group exhibitions including "Interface: Queer Artists Forming Communities" at the Leslie-Lohman Museum in 2015, "Queer Biennial II" at Coagula Curatorial in Los Angeles in 2016, and "He" at Last Projects in Los Angeles in 2017, as well as the Visual AIDS Vanguard Awards at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in 2013.
