Michael Tyrell is a Brooklyn-born poet, actor, and visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of New York University and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, he teaches as a language lecturer at NYU and previously worked as an editorial assistant at The New Yorker and as book review editor of Chelsea magazine. His poetry has appeared in journals including The Paris Review, Yale Review, Harvard Review, and Ploughshares, and he co-edited the anthology Broken Land: Poems of Brooklyn with Julia Kasdorf (NYU Press, 2007). His honors include the James Merrill Writing Residency and the John Ciardi Scholarship from the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. He also works as an actor and visual artist and offers private writing tutoring and editing services.
