As an activist and graphic designer, I combine these with art making, blurring all together. Much of my work responds to the climate emergency. Works include watercolor, paper samples, bits of nature (feathers, found objects from compost, Egyptian papyrus), images from publications. Decomposing leaves suggest climate breakdown, an empty chair is a metaphor for government inaction (where is the chairperson/decision maker? who is absent from the dialog?). A tiny rubber stamp alphabet spells messages, often obscure and unnoticed, addressing the need for widespread policy change. I sometimes include Chinese characters to provide hope (strength, peace, wisdom) because despair immobilizes us. It is my intention that these works generate thoughtful conversation and a move to action.
