Librado 'Lee' Romero, born in Los Angeles in 1942, has been drawing and painting since childhood, exhibiting both photography and paintings in Europe, Mexico and throughout the United States. After art school in San Francisco, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 and served as Regimental Photographer in West Germany, beginning a fifty-year photojournalism career. He worked as a staff photographer for the Providence Journal, then joined The New York Times in 1969, later returning to the paper in 1985 and remaining until his retirement in 2013. In 2002 he was part of the Times' Pulitzer Prize-winning 'How Race Is Lived in America' series. He also worked for Newsweek, Time, and other publications, and ran an art gallery in Venice, California, before returning to full-time painting. Since retiring, he has painted from his Yonkers studio, depicting the Hudson River as seen from his home in the Bronx's Riverdale neighborhood, with work exhibited at the Hudson River Museum, Bronx Community College, and Gallery 505 in Riverdale.
