Laura J. Stein

I have piles of paper brushstrokes in my studio, which I fashion from auction catalogs filled with silver and gold objects, porcelain, and jewelry. Using reproductions of paintings and sculptures, I glean brushstrokes from Wayne Theibaud, John Singer Sargent, and the works of the Old Masters. I cut, tear, paste, and inlay these strokes to form rearrangements of these elements , remaking them into something meaningful to me in the moment.
