Jordan Colon
Ceramics / PotteryJordan Colón is a Brooklyn-based potter and painter working from a studio in Greenpoint. He spent nine years running Eat, a farm-to-table restaurant he opened in Greenpoint in 2006, and traces his shift to ceramics to a 2010 pottery-studio visit in Amsterdam; he closed the restaurant in 2015 to work with clay full time. Colón sees cooking and craft as part of the same continuum of locally made, hand-worked objects, producing wheel-thrown tableware such as cups, bowls, and pitchers alongside paintings and pastel drawings. Describing his process, he says he works "with a focus on movement while entering into an open, unattached mindset." He has shown work through Greenpoint Open Studios and keeps a by-appointment studio in the neighborhood.
