Chelsea Brown
PaintingChelsea Brown is a watercolor artist and design leader based in Brooklyn. She is excited for her third year at Gowanus Open Studios, and her first with Brooklyn Neighborhood Arts. Chelsea's paintings incorporate dreamy color schemes and natural motifs inspired by her favorite places, favorite songs, and the feelings they evoke—with Taylor Swift music as a running thread. Outside of the studio, she leads design for newsroom tools at TEGNA's 50+ broadcast stations nationwide. She grew up in North Carolina and majored in Graphic Design at NC State University. Her favorite Taylor Swift song is Cornelia Street.
I create mixed-media art inspired by my favorite places, favorite songs, and the feelings and memories they evoke. My pieces incorporate dreamy color schemes, city scapes, and natural motifs. I reignited my love for collage and painting with the release of Taylor Swift's folklore, inspired by the highly visual fantasies in her lyrics. What started as a hobby for escapism and comfort grew into a more established art practice that I am so proud to formally share. I work out of Brooklyn Neighborhood Arts studios in Gowanus and am a yearly participant in their Open Studios event.
